How to Pack Books When Moving
One common moving mistake that is made over and over again is packing books in large boxes. Books are heavy, which means large boxes full of books can be a recipe for disaster. Save your books and your back from damage by carefully packing your books into small book boxes.
Here are the correct steps to take when packing books.
The Best Way to Pack Books
Books are heavy – and depending on the size of your collection, can be expensive to move. Before the packing begins, you’ll want to do an assessment of what books should come with you to your new home and what books you’re willing to give away. Many local nonprofits, libraries and thrift stores will take the books you no longer need. And you could even make a little cash, selling your books to a used bookstore. Once you’ve culled down your collection, start by lining empty book boxes with newsprint to protect the outside cover of the books. Books should be packed securely by placing them into the box on their side. And with each new layer of books, alternate bound side up and bound side down.
If there are any gaps between books of various sizes, fill the space with crumpled newspaper to prevent shifting and movement while the books are being transported. After the books are packed securely in the book box, close and secure the box with packing tape. Lastly, label the box to keep things organized.
